Partial refunds for some LCD screen owners

Do you have an LCD screen in your home for your television or computer? You could be due money, depending on where you live, as several Attorneys General agree to a $571 settlement with three technology corporations.

The AG’s allege AU Optronics Corporation, LG Display Co, and Toshiba Corporation conspired to boost prices for LCD screens used in TVs, computer monitors, and laptops.

“This price-fixing scheme created an unlevel playing field for businesses that abide by the rules, and left consumers paying artificially higher costs for televisions, computers and other electronics,” said Attorney General Schneiderman.

You’ll may be eligible to receive a partial refund if you live in one of the participating states and bought a product with a TFT-LCD panel from January 1, 1999 through December 31, 2006. The participating states include the following: Arizona,  Arkansas, California, Florida, Hawaii, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nevada, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Tennessee, Vermont, West Virginia and Wisconsin.

The settlement still needs final court approval. Click here for more information on the case.
