What are you getting your mom? Mother’s Day is Sunday, May 14, 2017. It’s a great day to take your mom to brunch at a luxurious hotel or restaurant you’ve been wanting to visit.

Make sure you make reservations early, as Mother’s Day brunch is popular. Don’t expect great deals at the top restaurants, but you can save if you are looking for simple. Look for restaurant deals on Groupon, LivingSocial, and Restaurant.com. Read the fine print, because Mother’s Day may be excluded. While you’re on these sites, start looking for restaurants in cities where you may be traveling this summer. Just one of several ways you can cut your vacation budget.

Maybe you don’t want to do brunch with mom. How about a nice massage or other spa services? Look for deals, and if you don’t see one call spas and ask if they have a combo package on sale for Mother’s Day. You can also find decent massage deals on Groupon and LvingSocial. Just check the reviews for the location before purchasing the deal.

If you’re buying your mom flowers from an online marketplace, make sure you setup a separate Inbox first because some online flower retailers send a lot of emails. You can also click — don’t send me offers — when ordering your mom flowers.

You won’t see great floral deals during the big holidays, but there are still ways to save on flowers. Consider an alternative to a traditional bouquet. Create your own floral arrangement that will bloom on a porch or backyard all summer long or buy an orchid. Orchids are beautiful flowers and they last several months if cared for properly.

If you order from a florist, make sure you ask the florist the right questions so you know what you’re truly getting for your money.

Spring and summer clothing

If you need new spring and summer clothes for your wardrobe, May is the time to buy these items. Clothing will be reduced the most for Memorial Day sales. You may not have to wait until Memorial Day, though, as sales happen earlier and earlier. While you’ll see clothing go on sale in early May, Dealnews‘ evaluation of sales found 90% of Memorial Day sales start the week before Memorial Day, including their Editors’ Choice deals. So, it pays to wait a few more weeks for spring and summer clothes.

While you’ll be able to get summer deals, Dealnews says the best deals (20-90% off) are on spring clothes. So, those shorts may not be on sale just yet. Combine the sale with a coupon and you’ll save even more.

While most summer clothing deals are later in the season, there’s one exception. Swimsuits are a better deal in May. I guess it’s not warm enough yet that swimsuits are in that demand yet.

Memorial Day sale

Memorial Day is a great time to save on outdoor patio furniture, a new grill, furniture, mattress, or appliance.

Kitchen supplies and appliances were 20% off last Memorial Day weekend, according to Dealnews.

The stores to watch include Williams-Sonoma, JcPenney, Cymax, and Sears.

The big box stores also usually offer savings on refrigerators and stoves over the holiday weekend.

It’s not just the grill that you can save money on in May, add in all the paper goods too that you’ll need for a nice BBQ. Dealnews suggest checking sites like Amazon, Walmart, Target and Jet.com to save 10% on your bulk summer party needs.

If you’re shopping for paper goods, Amazon Prime Pantry may be for you. Introducing Prime Pantry – Everyday Essentials Delivered to You

You’ll also find these items on sale at the membership clubs like Sam’s Club and Costco.

While mattresses go on sale with the big national holidays like Memorial Day, Dealnews found the better deals are in June. If there is a specific mattress you want, buy in May. If you don’t mind which mattress you get, wait and save even more in June.

Star Wars

May the force be with all you shopppers. May 4th is Star Wars Day. There is a day for everything! That means deals on toys and other Star Wars apparel and merchandise.

Office furniture

Dealnews says May brings all-time lows for office furniture. If you need a new chair or desk, now is the time to buy. Look at traditional office supply stores and don’t forget retailers like Quill.
